Step 1: Set Your Baseline Parameters


The journey begins on the intuitive left sidebar.


  • First, enter your Vessel Name to personalize your session and your final report.

  • Next, select your Target Year from the dropdown menu (ranging from 2028 to 2050). The system is pre-coded with the official IMO GFI reduction trajectories, so selecting the year automatically sets the correct "Base" (Tier 2 Start) and "Direct" (Tier 1 Start) limits for your calculation.


Step 2: Input Your Fuel Matrix


The true power of the GFI framework lies in its push toward alternative and zero-carbon fuels. Our calculator is built to handle this transition seamlessly.


  • Below the vessel data, you will find a comprehensive list of marine fuels. This includes traditional options like HFO and MDO/MGO, transition fuels like LNG (Otto/Diesel), and future-ready options including Bio-Diesel, e-Methanol, Ammonia, and Hydrogen.


  • Simply input the expected consumption (in metric tons) for each fuel type. The underlying engine will instantly apply the correct Emission Factor (EI) and Lower Calorific Value (LCV) to compute your aggregate fuel intensity.





Step 3: Analyze Your Core GFI Metrics



The moment your fuel data is entered, the main dashboard updates to reveal your compliance status:


  1. Attained GFI (g/MJ): The calculated greenhouse gas intensity of your specific fuel mix.

  2. Total GFI Cost ($): The estimated total financial penalty (Remedial Units cost) if your Attained GFI exceeds the regulatory limits.

  3. Tier 1 RU (Cost): The cost incurred if your intensity falls between the Direct Limit and the Base Limit.

  4. Tier 2 RU (Cost): The severe penalty incurred if your intensity completely exceeds the maximum Base Limit.


Step 4: Visualize Your Compliance Trajectory



Visualizing your data helps in long-term strategic planning.


  • On the left, the IMO Limit Lines Chart plots the strict Tier 1 (orange dotted line) and Tier 2 (red dashed line) boundaries from 2028 to 2050. Your vessel’s "Attained GFI" is marked on this graph, showing you exactly how close you are to the penalty zones.


  • On the right, a dynamic Fuel Mixture Pie Chart visually breaks down the proportion of each fuel type you are utilizing.


Step 5: Review Yearly Financial Projections



Planning for a single year is not enough. Scroll down to find our automated Yearly Compliance Cost Projection Table. Based on the fuel mix you just entered, this table calculates what your compliance status and potential financial penalties would look like for every single year from 2028 through 2050. It instantly highlights whether you are "✅ Compliant", facing a "⚠️ Tier 1 Warning", or "❌ Non-Compliant".


Step 6: Export Your Professional PDF Report
