Navigating British Waters: How the MarineDeCarb UK ETS Calculator Works

World's First Web UK ETS Calculator...

Since the UK’s departure from the European Union, the maritime industry has had to adapt to a new regulatory landscape: the UK Emissions Trading Scheme (UK ETS). For vessels calling at UK ports, understanding the specific reporting requirements and financial exposure within British waters is no longer optional—it is a vital part of voyage planning.

To simplify this transition, we have launched the MarineDeCarb UK ETS Calculator. This specialized tool is designed to provide shipowners and operators with a clear, accurate, and rapid assessment of their UK ETS liabilities. Let’s walk through how you can utilize this professional dashboard.

Step 1: Log Your UK Voyage and Port Activities

The UK ETS requires precise reporting of fuel consumption for voyages within the UK, as well as arrivals to and departures from UK ports. Our calculator features two dedicated entry modules:

  • Leg Reporting: Enter your voyage details, including departure and arrival ports. Select the correct Scope (Within UK, To UK, or From UK) and fuel type. The system automatically applies the correct weighting (100% or 50%) based on UK government regulations.

  • Port Reporting: All fuel consumed while at a UK port is subject to 100% UK ETS liability. Log your port consumption by fuel type to ensure a comprehensive compliance overview.

Step 2: Configure Your Vessel and UK Carbon Price

On the left control panel, you can customize the calculation for your specific vessel.

  • Enter the Vessel Name to personalize your session.

  • Input the current UK Allowance (UKA) price in British Pounds (GBP). Because the UK carbon market operates independently from the EU ETS, monitoring the specific UKA price is essential. We have provided a direct link to live market data right on the sidebar to help you stay updated.

Step 3: Monitor Real-Time UK ETS Metrics

As you update your data, the MarineDeCarb engine instantly calculates your total exposure. At the top of the dashboard, you will find your primary KPIs:

  1. Total CO2eq (UK ETS): The total tonnage of CO2 emissions for which you must surrender allowances under the UK scheme.

  2. Total UK ETS Cost (GBP): Your estimated total financial liability calculated in British Pounds, providing a clear figure for your voyage budget.

Step 5: Export a Professional UK Compliance Report

Documentation is key to professional maritime management. Once your analysis is complete, click the "Prepare Report (PDF)" button on the left sidebar. The system will instantly generate a standardized, corporate PDF report containing your vessel details, voyage summaries, and total UK ETS financial exposure. This report is ready to be shared with charterers, port authorities, or your internal finance team.
